Godliness is profitable unto all things, having the promise of the life which now is and of that which is to come (1 Timothy 4:8). But there is a high cost to living an ungodly life. Let’s explore some of the consequences of ungodliness and the pathways to embracing godliness.

The Costs of Ungodliness

1. Blocks access to supernatural breakthroughs. God has breakthroughs in store for us, but ungodliness hinders us from receiving them. The path of the righteous shines brighter and brighter, but the way of the wicked is shrouded in darkness.

2. Destroys destiny, especially through pride. Pride goes before a fall. When we elevate ourselves, we are actually headed downward. Instead, we must humble ourselves and let God lift us up.

3. Blocks access to eternity with Christ. The unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God. After our time on earth, the ultimate goal is to reign with Christ in eternity. Our choices here determine where we spend eternity.

The Way Out: Repentance

Repentance is the only acceptable requirement for forgiveness. We must confess our sins, not cover them. Even with spiritual gifts operating in our lives, we cannot be deceived – sin must be repented of. Like the thief on the cross next to Jesus, when we show genuine repentance, we can be forgiven and enter paradise with Christ.

The Demands of Godliness

1. Pray for the endowment of the spirit of holiness
2. Engage the power of Jesus’ blood for rescue
3. Stop evil thoughts in order to stop evil acts. Actions are the byproduct of thoughts. As a man thinks in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23:7). We must cast down evil imaginations.

Keys to Operating in Supernatural Favor

1. The key of new birth, which brings us into favor with God and man
2. The key of righteousness, as exemplified by Joseph and Daniel
3. The key of kingdom stewardship, taking pleasure in God’s house
4. The key of sacrificial giving of finances to advance God’s kingdom

When we embrace these keys, we position ourselves to receive God’s unmerited favor and preferential treatment in areas like career, business, marital settlement, and supernatural fruitfulness.

As children of God, let us turn from ungodliness and walk the path of righteousness. As we do, we will experience the immeasurable joys and favors that come from living a life fully surrendered to Him. The costs of ungodliness are high, but the rewards of godliness are out of this world.
